Bridal Portraits

Yesterday I had my bridal portraits taken.  Originally, I didn’t think I wanted to take bridals, but the session was a gift and I’m glad I had an excuse to get my hair and makeup done and wear my dress!  It also gave me the chance to see how everything came together (hair and makeup, dress, jewelry, bouquet, etc).

The weather forcast for October 6th looked beautiful leading up until Monday.  That is, until Sunday.  The chance of rain throughout the day went up significantly to 80%.  If you know anything about me, or my photographer, if there’s a good chance of rain or overcast skies (bad lighting) we would/should cancel.  I had to make the final call Monday morning before 9am because my florist was putting together my flowers that morning and although the bouquet would hold for a few days for us to reschedule, the floral crown wouldn’t hold more than a day after stems were cut and the crown put together.  After much back and forth and should I or shouldn’t I, I decided that we would just go with it and cross our fingers that we had good weather.  (*Sidenote* If this had been a client of mine, I would have highly suggested we reschedule because the weather was looking that bad.  It’s sort of one of those things that’s “do as I say, not as I do.”)  Anyway, I decided we would proceed because I really didn’t know if Wednesday (our backup day) would have any better weather (rain was predicted for Wednesday as well), and we are getting close to needing them done for the wedding.

After the decision was made, there was no going back.  I packed up my stuff, got Bandit and headed to my Mom’s house.  The sun was shining and the weather looked beautiful.  By the time I arrived to my mom’s house, that sunshine was no where to be seen.  It was dark.  And windy.  And rainy.  This iPhone photo doesn’t do how dark it was that day justice:

On we went.  We stopped by to pick up my florals, and then myself, my mom and my bridesmaid Sarah headed downtown to get my hair and makeup done.  The entire drive it was pouring!  Traffic was moving extremely slow due to the weather…it was raining so hard it was hard to see more than five feet in front of the car.  At this point, the thought that I had maybe made a mistake by deciding to go ahead with the session was crossing my mind.  When I received a text from my photographer asking if any of us had plain colored umbrellas without patterns in case we needed to use them during the session…even though Katie didn’t tell me, I had a good idea she was probably stressing a little bit about what we were going to do.  At this point there was talk that one or two small tornadoes had hit inside the loop.  I know I really wanted my pictures to be pretty and have that warm sunlit glow to them, and I know she wanted them to be pretty as well…so even though it was my decision to move ahead with our session despite the weather, we were kinda wondering how this whole bridal picture taking thing was going to go.

So we arrive to get my hair and makeup done (they did a fantabulous job by the way, as always), and about half way through getting myself beautified, I received a text from Katie saying this:

Thankfully it had stopped raining and the sun was coming out!  Woohoo!!!  From there on it was clear and sunny skies.  And the weather was gorgeous!  No heat or humidity…it had actually cooled down some.

If you haven’t heard yet, I’m wearing boots on the day of our wedding.  Something my mom has been pretty vocal about that she thinks is a crazy idea!  Let’s ignore the fact that you don’t even see my shoes with my dress, so nobody would really know I was wearing boots if I hadn’t just wrote about it on this blog.  All this to say, that boy did those boots come in handy yesterday!  Even though we had beautiful weather during my session, it did POUR all morning and early afternoon.  So things were pretty muddy.  There would have been no way for me to walk around the place we did my session at (Think country, fields, grass, horses, etc) without my boots.  Mom finally admitted to me that the boots “sure did come in handy” yesterday.  I’ll take what I can get!

Since I can’t share any photos from yesterday, I’ll share this photo of my bouquet.  🙂
