People have been asking me to write about how we met ever since I started this blog, but gosh! It’s hard to write about yourself and tell a story like that in an interesting fashion so you won’t get bored. BUT, I’ll give it a whirl.
I had been out of college for almost three years. Working from home and photographing weddings on the weekends didn’t really allow me much time to go out and meet new people. And honestly, that’s not really my type of personality anyways. I’m not big into the bar and club scenes, and if anything enjoy a dinner out with some friends or hanging out at home with my dogs and watching my DVR. (Wow, I sound really boring right now!)
I had thought about online dating before, knowing several people it worked for, but was still a bit hesitant until my friend Lynsey talked me into it one Saturday while we were photographing a wedding together. I decided to give it a try. Online dating is a lot like dating in the real world. There’s some quality people on there, and then there’s the opposite of quality. You just have to be smart about picking and choosing who you decide to interact with on these sites.
I had been doing the online dating thing off and on for about two years (I’m guessing), and was in my last two months of my subscription (I had decided not to renew and take a break for awhile) when David first contacted me. I was in Vegas for WPPI at the time, so even though we emailed a few times during that week, I didn’t really get to learn much about him until I was back home and not living out of a suitcase. After emailing back and forth for a few weeks, I gave my number to David and we started texting. After another week or two of texting and talking about movies we like, David asked me if I’d go see a movie with him.
In the past when I had met someone from online we would meet at a coffee shop, that way I wasn’t stuck there in case things didn’t “click” between us and I could easily get out of dodge. But after agreeing to a movie, David insisted on taking me to dinner first. I agreed, even though I knew I’d be stuck with this guy for upwards of at least 3-4 hours (the time for dinner and a movie) if things didn’t work out.
Lucky for us, they did. David showed up at the restaurant (Lupe Tortilla by my apartment even though he had no idea how close to the restaurant I lived at the time) with flowers and a big smile. 🙂 After dinner, we went to a MOVIE, and then David walked me back to my car since we drove seperately (you know, the whole you’re a stranger and I’m not letting you pick me up at my home on our first date together in case you turn out to be a pyscho).
Looking back, David said he knew that first night that I would be the one. But for me, it definitely took longer as I’m more of a “practical thinker,” a friend of time and letting things evolve more slowly.
Two months shy of two years later and things have definitely evolved! We are super excited to be planning our wedding for later this year and spending that day with some of the most important people in our lives!

Ahh, another online couple getting hitched. Welcome to the club.
