Our trip this year had a little bit of everything mixed in. We got to enjoy the beach, mountains, and jeep trails with three destinations being on our itinerary: Destin -> Great Smoky Mountains -> Hot Springs, AK
We started off with a 7 hour drive to Destin, FL. Last time (which also happened to be my first time) we took a short trip to Destin it rained practically the entire time we were there. Not just a light rain, but heavy rain, thunder and wind. We were so happy that the weather this time around was pretty much perfect! We ended up taking this trip towards the end of April, and while it might have been a little cool for some, it was the perfect time for me. Off-season meant the beaches weren’t crowded and getting around Destin, to and from restaurants for dinner, the traffic was nothing like it was when we previously went in the summer. It made the entire experience that much more enjoyable.
We stayed in a condo this time and loved it! Even when we weren’t spending our time at the beach, we really enjoyed our evenings after dinner when we could sit on the condo balcony and enjoy the ocean views. One night, we even saw dolphins swimming in the ocean from our balcony!

We always have to stop by the beach when we first get into town. I always think evenings/sunset at the beach is such a peaceful time to enjoy the views. The day crowds are gone, and it’s just a calmer more peaceful experience in my opinion.

I’ll never get over how clear the water is in Destin.

We tend to bring our own food for breakfast, sandwich making to pack for the beach, and snacks, but if we do venture out for food, it tends to be for dinner. Two of our favorite places to eat in Destin are McGuire’s Irish Pub (this one is a must in my opinion. It can get crowded so go early or be prepared) and Lulu’s. Lulu’s is nice for a more casual atmosphere and is a bit more affordable than McGuire’s.
