YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK
Being the true Texans we are, our first full day in Yellowstone we had a snowball fight. ![]()

In all seriousness, we headed to the south side of the park and saw Lewis Lake. This last was still almost completely frozen from the winter! It was the only lake in the park that we saw still frozen like this.

After that we spent the day (and rest of the week actually) exploring Yellowstone! Bison, rivers, waterfalls and geysers… there’s a lot to see!

One thing that I wasn’t expecting was the smell emitting from these geysers. I’m not sure why I didn’t think of it beforehand because it makes complete sense, but there’s definitely a strong stench of rotten eggs when you get near these.

One of my favorite parts about yellowstone (besides the rivers and waterfalls) was the wildlife! Bison are plenty, and you see them everywhere.

One morning, we were lucky to come upon a Bison herd walking down the road, and we were in the right direction to see it all! There were so many young calves during this time of year, it was fun to see the moms push/urge them to keep walking down the road!

By our last full day in Yellowstone, David and I were on a mission to see some bears (although by this point we had come to accept the fact that it’s just plain dumb luck). Luckily, dumb luck was on our side this day. We spent our last morning exploring the north side of the park (a part of the park we almost didn’t go see – it ended up being our favorite), and were lucky to come across this baby black bear! So much of what we read online said you really needed to be at the park in the early hours to increase your chances of seeing wildlife. We saw this black bear at 11:30am.

After spotting the cub and spending some time watching it graze, we left and continued the park loop we were on feeling like we had won for the day. We stopped at another waterfall view to eat the lunch we had packed.

Firm believers that luck wouldn’t strike twice, we headed back to West Yellowstone for a relaxed afternoon and to get ready for our drive home in the morning, and it just so happens that dumb luck does sometimes strike twice! We saw this grizzly on our way out of the park at 1:30pm.

Mission Accomplished.
We loved Yellowstone and will definitely visit again in the future! My biggest tip if you’re planning a trip to this park is to take an ice chest and pack your lunches/snacks! The park is large and doing this every day saved us so much time because we were able to stop and eat when we wanted without having to leave the park. We were also able to enjoy the pretty views while we had a picnic!
