Master Bath Remodel

2022 was the year! We decided to finally move forward and have our master bath redone! Well, technically we made the decision at the end of 2021, but it took a good six months for everything to come in before they could start on the job.

Ever since we moved in to this home, our bathroom shower door has needed replacing. It had been hanging by one hinge since the day we moved in, and we just “nursed” it along the last six years. Then last year we noticed the shower pan needed replacing. That with the shower door, basically meant we would need to redo our entire shower. Well the shower is right next to the tub, and if we replaced the shower we knew the tub would look even more dated. And well, you know how the story goes. So we made the decision to redo all of it. Well, most of it.

While I would have loved to completely change the layout of things, move plumbing around and order all new cabinets, that just wasn’t in the budget. The shower got redone, the tub got replaced, we put in new countertops and we did new tile. We opted to keep our cabinets and put a fresh coat of paint on them. We had to have some sheetrock repair done on one of the walls in our toilet room, and the baseboards needed replacing in there so we did new baseboards in the entire bathroom as well. We also ordered new mirrors and light fixtures.

Even though we didn’t change the layout or get new, more modern looking cabinets, I really feel that the choices we made on color, finishes and the more modern look of the tub helped update the space.

This is where we started.

A few not-so-pretty progress photos. We had a few delays because a few of the fixtures were missing pieces (which I think is ridiculous), but overall this project took about six weeks. There’s a wait for the glass to get measured and cut after the shower is complete, as well as they have to come out and measure for the countertops and then there’s a wait to get those cut and delivered.

The end of day one. Shower, tub and flooring all demoed. We had to reroute some of the plumbing in the shower to make room for our niches, but it was completely worth it to me.
End of day two. Framing for the new tub complete, and the tub is now in its new home.
Niches framed out, new shower pan built, and red guard added.
Shower tiled, floor tiled, and most of tub tiled. They had to leave the face off on the tub while we waited for missing parts for the tub filler to arrive. I’m not sure what day this was, but this is me wishing everything was finished already, because I’m inpatient.
Countertops got installed. We also put up our new light fixtures.

It was really difficult for us to spend this much money, but we love how the bathroom turned out! It’s probably the first room in our house that we’ve completely redone and feels 100% us and our style. Here are the after photos!

We looove the frameless glass on the shower! Especially compared to what we had previously.

When we were in the planning stages, we talked about removing the tub completely because we would have loved to make our shower bigger, but I love soaking in our tub after a long wedding day.

Previously there was a towel rack above the tub, but we never really used it and it stayed empty. So, I decided to get rid of the towel rack and put these floating shelves up to hold some epsom salt, bath things, and decor. I love how it turned out.

I’m also not a fan of the window that’s there, and would have loved to change that to something more modern, but cost was a factor. I decided to make these faux roman shades to hang up here which serves two purposes: 1. They cover up some of the window I don’t like (and also parts of the window that the previously owner got paint on that I can’t get off now) and 2. They are cute! 😉

Everything got a fresh coat of paint.

I love how our mirrors look! We got both the mirrors and light fixtures off Amazon as well as the towel hooks. I’ll link everything below!

This was definitely a big project, and I love how it turned out, but boy am I glad it’s done! Not having your master bathroom for six weeks is just not convenient. 😂
