After the fishing trip last year, we deciding to join my uncle again this year, but we added to it this time. Instead of driving all that way, David and I decided to fly so we could make the most out of time. We knew we wanted to visit Zion and we wanted the extra time we would have spent driving instead spent at Zion.
Tuesday, we flew into Las Vegas where my uncle and cousin picked us up and we headed to Zion. We got to Zion that afternoon and were able to spend that afternoon getting the lay of the land and doing some shorter hikes.

My original plan (and something on my bucket list) was to hike The Narrows that afternoon. Unfortunately, weather conditions were not ideal and they closed this hike. I was pretty bummed. We had this planned during a time of year that is traditionally great for hiking the narrows, but it wasn’t meant to be this time. I told David that this just gives me an excuse to go back. 😉

We left the park around 7pm that day and headed to our hotel because we knew we had a big day the next day.

Wednesday was the day we hiked Angel’s Landing. I have come to really enjoy hiking and being outdoors (for hiking), but unfortunately Houston has very little to nil when it comes to hiking options. Zion showed me once again how beautiful other places are and reenforced my desire to plan trips that allow a day or two of hiking and outdoor exploring.

After hiking Angel’s Landing (David, my cousin and myself did this) we met my uncle in the park who so graciously brought us lunch (even with the snacks we had brought with us, after that hike we were pretty ravenous), and we enjoyed the grandness of Zion. We followed lunch up with another small hike and then called it a day.

When I first mentioned Zion to David in the pre-planning phase, he was so kind and just went with it, but I don’t know if he was as into the Zion plan as I was. After going to the park though, he ended up loving it as much as me and we both want to go back in the future.

Thursday we all went to the Grand Canyon. Last year we made a quick stop on the south side of the Grand Canyon on our drive to Lake Panguitch, but this we my Uncle had the idea for us to go to the North side of the Grand Canyon. And so we did.

I. Loved. It. The south side the year before was very crowded while the north side was much more low key and not as crowded. They say the North Rim gets about 80% less visitors than the South Rim. I’m not sure why because I loved the North Rim probably more. We spent the day here exploring, relaxing at the lodge and taking in the views.

Friday we headed to Lake Panguitch and spent Friday afternoon and Saturday fishing. The previous year, the fishing wasn’t great, but this year the fish were biting! It was so much fun, as we were catching them left and right between all of us.
Sunday we headed back. My uncle and cousin dropped David and I off in Las Vegas so we could catch our flight while they continued home to California.
We loved this trip and hope to go again next year!
