Several weeks ago I was visiting a friend and fell in love with her long wooden candle holder. She had bought the item several months back, and I could no longer find it online. I did find several other candle holders that were either (A) not exactly what I envisioned or (B) more money than what I wanted to spend. I decided that maybe I should try to make one. How hard could it be? I found a tutorial on Pinterest and went to work. The project was pretty straight forward and although I adjusted the size of the drill bit for the votive candles, we didn’t really run into any hiccups.
I had previously made some floating wooden shelves for one of our bathrooms, so I already knew what I wanted to stain it with. I used a wood conditioner pre-stain, two coats of Walnut stain, and two coats of a top coat (I lightly sanded between the two coats of top coat).
I ended up making two of these: one 3ft piece (eight candles total) for our formal dining table , and one 2ft piece (five candles total) for our coffee table in the living room.
I just love how this turned out and I think there’s a good chance I might make a few more as Christmas presents for a couple of my friends who have a love of candles and wood.
