Officially Homeowners

Well, it’s been three weeks since my last update and we are now officially homeowners and living in our new home!  We did not want to be paying double rent longer than we had to, so we go things moving quickly.

This was how the following week went after we closed on our house:

Monday morning:  Close on house, go buy paint, purchase new refrigerator (to be delivered Saturday)

Tuesday: Painters start wall repair

Wednesday:  Painters start painting, buy a new couch (which unfortunately won’t be delivered for 3.5 weeks)

Thursday: Painters finish up, carpet gurus out to measure master bedroom for new carpet

Friday Morning:  Washing machine and dryer delivered, Carpet gets installed

Friday Afternoon:  Movers come

Friday Night: Exhausted, but moved in!

Saturday:  Refrigerator is delivered

Because we were in such a hurry to get everything done in a week so we could get out of our apartment, and because I wasn’t exactly here all day while the painters were at the house, I didn’t get to see the color going on the walls.  Let’s just say, grey is a hard color to get correct!  The paint swatch looked great everywhere we looked at it, but when on our walls, (depending on what room I’m in and if the sun is hitting it or if it’s in shadows)….the color can look a light blue.  😦  Definitely not what I was going for.  100% my fault for trying to get everything done in a week.  I’m learning to love my new “sometimes grey, sometimes light blue” walls.  One day, I’ll redo it, but for now at least the walls are all the same color and there’s not terrible touch up jobs done throughout the house that were there before.

We are about 75% unpacked.  Most of the week has been spent on the phone getting trash, utilities, house-related things set up and addressed (like, why does our water account which has only been set up for four days say we’ve used 420,000 gallons of water and we owe a $6600…you know…fun things like that).  Moving is a lot of work….there are so many factors and things you need to remember to do.  Still we are happy to finally be home.  The first week we closed it didn’t feel like we had actually bought a house because we weren’t staying here, but now it’s definitely starting to feel more real.
