It only took me seven months but my last name has officially been changed and my new driver’s license has arrived. Better late than never right? Now I really need to get my “Greenfield” signature down. 😉
I debated about blogging this next part, but as I want to document our first year of marriage and all the challenges we come across, I decided to go ahead. Potentially one of the biggest adjustments since getting married has been how we manage our bank accounts. David and I both kept our money separate until after we got married. Call me crazy, but after 27 years of having my own bank account, my own money and not having to run purchases by another individual, I have kind of gotten use to it. Now that our accounts are merged, it’s a weird feeling making purchases. I’m no longer spending my money but our money. It definitely makes me think twice about buying something. And sometimes I feel as though I need to ask permission….well maybe not permission but I feel as though I should run certain purchases by David and vice versa. It’s not a bad thing, just different. Surprisingly, I’m kind of grateful for it, because it definitely holds us accountable and makes us think twice about those impulse purchases at Target or the ease of online shopping from our home. And that accountability will help us reach our financial goals that much quicker.
I did a lot of reading online at different websites and blogs reading different perspectives on the subject. I always find it fascinating hearing how other married couples manage their shared (or unshared) finances after marriage.
