Simplifying Life

It’s been a busy start to the year!  David has been busy working lots of hours at work, and I have spent the last couple weeks working on my new website for work.

In addition to that, David and I have been downsizing.  If you follow me on Facebook, you have probably seen my Facebook Garage Sale album as well as several posts in local buy and sell groups.  When we moved in together we brought all of our things, and our current space is not suited for that.  In addition to lack of space, I just love to declutter, simplify and when possible, liquidate. hahaha!  So I have been busy working on that project as well.

We have been blessed with some beautiful weather here lately.  Yesterday, David and I decided to take advantage of that weather (let’s be real, it probably won’t last long in Houston, so you gotta grab it when you have it) and took our bikes out for a bike ride along the Kingwood greenbelts and Lake Houston.  It was a very enjoyable day, but boy does my butt need to get used to a bike seat! haha!

Is anyone else out there as big of an app fan as I am?  I love apps for my phone.  They help keep me organized and I have easy access to almost anything I need when I am out and about.  One of the most useful apps I found shortly after David and I moved in together was the Wunderlist app.    It’s a bit of an adjustment living with someone (especially for someone who has been pretty independent her whole life).  Now instead of going to the store whenever I feel like it, I want to check with David to see if he needs/wants anything as well.  I’m not simply shopping for me anymore, I’m shopping for us.  And there’s a pretty big learning curve when shopping for someone else.  Some people can be pretty picky about what brands, foods, snacks they like or don’t like.  Things I like David may not like, and things David likes I may not like.  Needless to say, it’s been (and still is) a learning experience.  It would also get frustrating when I would be out and about and decide that I was in the mood to do grocery shopping, but if I hadn’t checked in with David on what he wanted/needed then I would have to go home and talk to him first.

If you know anything about me, I’m not a big “planner” when it comes to every day life chores.  I’m not the person that goes to the store every Sunday morning, and vacuums the house every Tuesday night.  I tend to “fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants” so they say and do things when I’m in the mood to do them.  This didn’t really help us coordinate well.

The Wunderlist app solved this problem and so many more.  It lets us create different lists (mine consist of Groceries, Work, To Do, Christmas, etc).  Most of these lists I keep to myself, but the Wunderlist app allows you to share lists with other users.  This way David and I are both able to  contribute to the same list when we think of or run out of something we want or need.  It makes it so much easier to just add to the list when something comes to mind instead of having to remember to tell each other.  It also means that I always have a current grocery list of what we want/need with me so when I’m out and about and decide on a whim to do grocery shopping David has already contributed to the list what he needs/wants.  One of my most favorite apps ever, and it’s free!
