First things first. David and I both cannot believe that it’s been almost a week since we arrived in Hawaii. The time is going by so fast, we are trying to savor our last few days here.
Anyway, we decided to drive back up the mountain this morning. It has some of our favorite views and we really enjoyed the drive the first time. This time though, we stopped at different pull-offs and went further than we had last time. I’m so glad we decided to do this because we found one of my favorite scenic spots of the trip.

And the obligatory iPhone selfie 😉

As we continued to drive up the mountain, all of the sudden the road went from two lanes to one. And there weren’t very many spots to pull to the side in case you encountered another car coming the other direction. We went for a bit down this road, and then I chickened out and told David we should go back. We kept thinking the road would change back to two lanes but it never did and the road just got more narrow the further we traveled. So, we turned around and headed back. Of course we ran into some cars (with no place to pull off) and had to back up a good portion of this mountain backwards all the way hoping we weren’t too close to the edge. I was very glad David was driving as that was a drive I did not want to do. haha. It all worked out in the end, and we eventually made it out of the mountain.
Later that night, we went to a Luau at our hotel. The Luau started about a half hour before sunset so we got to enjoy dinner as we watched the sun go down.

Dinner wasn’t bad. Surprisingly, I (the pickier eater) enjoyed it more than David did (he usually likes anything). I tried a little bit of almost everything. There was a lot of options too: Chicken, Fish, Pork, Veggies, some stir fry stuff, rolls, etc. Needless to say, we didn’t leave hungry.

After dinner, the main entertainment started. They performed several dances while narrating the story of their history and customs. It was really neat to watch.
I’m definitely glad we did the luau, especially since it was our first time in Hawaii. We went ahead and splurged for the VIP seating so I could have a good view for photos and video. Even though we enjoyed it, I think next time we will probably save the money and try something new. I’m always a fan of trying to new things instead of repeating old ones. Unless it’s Disneyland. That, I’ll go to over and over again. 😉
