Hawaii: Day 5

Thursday, November 6th

There’s probably not going to be much to write about for today.  We spent most of our day snorkeling.  I had read about Black Rock in our guidebook, and told David it was the place to snorkel and that we should go because it’s free (well, free except for the parking).  Black Rock was super close to our hotel (maybe a five mine drive), so it was super convenient to get to.

First thing, I loved the beach here.  Unlike outside our hotel with maybe 10 feet of sand, this beach (which is really only a few miles north of our hotel) had a lot more sand and beach land next to it.  I definitely wasn’t going to take my main camera to a sandy beach, so here’s an iPhone photo of Black Rock.

Second thing, the snorkeling was SO much better here.  More crowded, yes, but not that bad.  There was a ton of fish and the water was much calmer so it was clear.  It was amazing seeing all the fish (and then some) in David’s tank in their natural wild habitat.  These fish were obviously used to swimming with humans because they weren’t scared of us at all. Some would swim right up to us.  I think David even told me he touched some of the tangs.  haha.  We also gave our rented underwater camera a go today using it for both photos and video.

That’s pretty much what we did all day.  We headed back around 4pm to shower and change and then get the camera back to the camera shop.
