Recap: The Ceremony

Our ceremony was set to start at 5:30pm.  Around 5pm, as we were finishing up taking photos someone finally told me that the minister was running late.  Apparently she was having some car troubles and had to find alternate transportation, but she would only be fifteen minutes behind.  No big deal.  When this was brought up, my videographer, Robert mentioned that Josh (also a videographer and someone I worked with when I worked for Robert a few years ago) was ordained and could perform the ceremony if my minster for some reason didn’t show up.  We laughed at that and said, “well at least we have a backup plan!” and then headed back inside.  The next thing I knew, my coordinator came up to me in the bridal suite and asked me if I really wanted Josh to perform our ceremony.  She had our minster on the phone and because she had to leave late due to the car issues and delay of finding alternate transportation, she was now stuck in traffic and was going to be much later than originally anticipated.  We probably wouldn’t start the ceremony until 6:30pm at the earliest.  After checking with Josh to make sure he was okay performing the ceremony (and checking with my video team to make sure they would be okay with one less camera going during the ceremony) I made the call and decided to have Josh officiate the ceremony.

He did such an amazing job!  I’m sure he was nervous as we sort of threw this at him 10 minutes before we started and he basically had zero time to prepare, but he was awesome.  Early in David and my’s relationship (and when I still lived in The Woodlands) we spent some time with Josh and his wife hanging out at their apartment.  It was really nice to have someone we knew personally officiate our ceremony and marry us.  If we had known Josh was ordained we would have asked him in the first place!  I guess everything has a way of working out.  It was meant to be that our minister had car troubles and wasn’t able to make it on time.

And, if you’re counting that’s two car issues that two separate vendors (remember my hair and makeup team?) had on our wedding day.  What are the odds?

Because we started the ceremony later than we had planned, I was extra grateful that we did a first look and completed most of our photos before the ceremony.  I had actually built in another thirty minutes for photos of just me and David during sunset when the lighting is best, but by the time we got to that point the good lighting was pretty much gone.
